Jeep says it is launching its new 4xe plug in hybrid with two models and the 2021 Wrangler Sahara 4xe will have a $47,995 base sticker, while the Rubicon will start at $51,695. Both prices are before the available $7,500 federal tax credit (prices exclude destination). For comparison, the standard Sahara starts at around $40,000 and a Rubicon about $42,000.
- 4xe models include premium content in addition to standard Sahara and Rubicon features
- Can hit 60 mph in six seconds
- Deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter, 2021
The 4xes use a 2.0-liter turbo four with a high-voltage, liquid-cooled motor generator, replacing the conventional alternator. There’s also a 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion, nickel manganese cobalt battery pack. Total output is a Hemi-esque 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, good enough for a 6 second 0-60 mph time. Jeep says the Wranglers should get 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).Related Story2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe: The Naturalist’s Choice
The Sahara Launch Edition has 20-inch wheels, leather-trimmed buckets, LED lights, Uconnect NAV with 8.4-inch display, a nine-speaker Alpine stereo, Selec-Trac 4WD and Dana 44 HD axles.
The Rubicon Launch Edition has the LED lights, the Uconnect, system and the Alpine stereo. It uses a 4:1 Rock-Trac heavy duty full-time 4WD System.
The 4xe has the proper Wrangler chops, on paper at least. It can ford up to 30 inches of water, has front and rear skid plates, a 44-degree approach angle, 22.5-degree breakover angle, 35.6-degree departure angle and a ground clearance of 10.8 inches. Can’t wait to drive it!
