As Jeep owners we all know that over time we hear lots of issues as we modify our rigs. The removal of our tops, taking off the doors and even small modifications can reveal new areas to fix. My 2012 Jeep Wrangler door seal needs replacing on both the front drivers side and passenger side doors.
So, I received my door seals and surprisingly this was one of the easiest changes I’ve done in a long time. The first was to remove the door strap on the door so that you can remove the old seal and put on the new one. You can choose to cut off the old, but I still needed to remove the door strap to put the new one on.
There are 3 clips that hold the seal on in addition to the gutters that the seal sits in. Once I removed the old seal, carefully put the single clip in the left door jam location and start with the top corner of the seal. I had to angle the seal and then use a flathead screwdriver to carefully push the remaining seal into place.
I can quickly tell that the seal is thicker and provides the door much more of an air tight seal to the point it is actually harder to close the door at first. It takes a bit, but the seal definitely creates a better “seal” around the door.
Overall, the install only took about 20 minutes for both doors and the need for a flathead screwdriver & a set of needle nose pliers to pull the clips from the old seal. If you’re having issues with your doors leaking and can’t seem to figure out what is wrong, start with the seals.
