Over the years, I’ve changed the look of my Wrangler JKU countless times. New wheels and tires, front and rear bumpers, roof rack or no rack and even interior elements. Typically, it is the small changes that I make that finish off the already installed mods I’ve completed. When I recently installed the new Flog Industries front and rear bumpers I change the look, but also lost out on the ability to pull trailers. This is because our Flog Industries bumper did not come with a mounted hitch attached to the bumper.
Therefore, I installed a Crown Automotive Trailer Hitch Master Kit on my Jeep Wrangler JKU. I honestly didn’t feel I needed a hitch when I changed my rear bumper, but after not having it and needing one it became a must have once again. Upon receiving the box from our friendly UPS driver, I was pleasantly surprised on the compact nature of the packaging. Everything as you can see was nicely snug in the box. This hitch is definitely built for harsh terrains, constructed of heavy-duty steel to withstand off-road torture and heavy trailer loads. The hitch comes with a black powder coat finish that will protect from rust, abrasion, and scratches.
INSTALL
The hitch itself is a solid construction! The tightening of the 4 bolts in the welded mounted nuts made this install complete in less than 30 minutes. Luckily, I did not have to uninstall my rear bumper, but instead able to fit the front of the hitch mount between the frame and bumper and slide it in place to complete the install. Once installed, I connected the existing wiring harness to the clip on the hitch mount.
Overall, this was a great and easy addition to our build that will come in handy while hauling a trailer or pulling our future watercraft. If you’re in the need of a replacement hitch I highly recommend the Crown Automotive Trailer Hitch Master Kit.
